Students need well-balanced, filling, and nutritious meals to focus and excel in the classroom, which is why many schools have begun offering breakfast each morning.
Yet even after having both breakfast and lunch at school, one 13-year-old boy kept coming home starving every day, which made dad Chris Lincoln wonder what his son and the rest of the students were being served, and was livid when he finally found out after his son sent him a picture of the ‘nutritious’ meal.
“He picked his plate up, he went and sat down to eat and I had him send me this picture,” said Lincoln who was furious to see he was paying for a slice of bread with cheese, grits, and a rotten banana. “I was livid because I should at least be able to identify what is on the plate.”
“Grits shouldn’t look like a scoop of ice cream, bread with cheese is not a breakfast item that I have ever heard of and if you’re going to get fruit, if it’s a banana, it shouldn’t be half-black by the time you get it,” Lincoln said.
The school insists the meal met every nutrition guideline, but Lincoln doesn’t feel it’s enough for growing kids.”For a 13-year-old boy, and I can’t speak for little girls, but they require more subsistence throughout the day and what they are feeding them is not nutritious, and it’s not good for them and he comes home every day like he’s starving, and I pay for that and I feel like whoever is in charge of this meal plan is not doing what they need to be doing,” Lincoln said. “You know that’s my money, my child he should be getting a decent lunch.”
