It’s not that uncommon for a two-year-old to break down in tears during an outing to the store with a parent, but usually, their mom or dad is right there trying to calm them down.
When one New Hampshire toddler broke down in tears during a trip to a local Family Dollar Store on Sunday morning, her mom did nothing to calm her little girl. Instead, the two-year-old dressed in ‘Frozen’ footie pajamas was left crying in fear because her mom was passed out on the floor.
The store workers immediately called 911 after the woman, whose name has not been made public, passed out in an aisle, and the terrified toddler was left standing over her mom’s body trying to wake her up by shaking her hands, pulling her hair, and grabbing her head.
Finally, paramedics arrived and administered two doses of Narcan, which reverse heroin and opiate overdoses, and found drug paraphernalia in her diaper bag. Yet when the mom woke up, she tried to deny that she had used drugs, and insisted she was just ‘tired’.
The woman has not been charged with anything so far, however, the police alerted the state’s Department of Children and Families since it was clear the mother was endangering her child and was an addict “It’s definitely common for children to act in this way, and we have seen this before,” Lawrence Police Capt. Roy Vasque said of the terrified 2-year-old. “To put a child in such a situation shows how strong the addiction is.”
