Parents know they can’t protect their kids from harm forever, and when they send their children off to school, they’ll eventually come home with a few bumps and bruises.

Yet when something does happen to their child, parents hope that the teachers and school staff will be there for their kids and get them whatever care is needed. Yet when one Colorado Spring sixth grader got in a fight with another student and ended up being stabbed with a pencil, the school did absolutely nothing.

Last Friday, Kyle Nipper was stabbed in the chest with a pencil and when his parents brought him to the emergency room to be checked out, they found out he needed immediate trauma surgery because one of his lungs had been punctured. Now, the Nippers and other parents are demanding to know why the school did nothing.

“They should have called 911. I mean, if you don’t know how to call 911 when somebody’s stabbed in the chest and can’t breathe, then there’s something wrong with you,” said family friend Aaron Coates. “How are you going to teach your child that something like that is even an option? I mean stabbing somebody with a pencil? I seen somebody get stabbed with a pencil once, you know where that was? In prison.”
