Many people think having pets or raising farm animals is all fun and games, however, they quickly learn that animals require a lot of time and energy to make sure they are happy and healthy.
And after realizing animals are too big a commitment, many end up returning the animals or finding them suitable homes . However, instead of finding a new home for over 130 animals that required too much work, one Ohio man left them to rot in their own filth and starve to death.
This past Sunday, The Brown County Humane Society from Georgetown, Ohio discovered a total of 130 starving animals, or 118 chickens, a few goats and sheep, two dogs, and two rabbits pent up in makeshift pens covered in their own feces. “The only way to describe our latest animal cruelty case is a ‘farmyard of horrors,’” the Humane Society said. And when the rescuers looked in the two small pails of water left out for the animals, they found dead chickens floating in the murky green water.
Deputy Dog Warden Barb Ashmore had originally been made aware of the situation after a neighbor complained about the smell. “I gave them four days to get things straightened up,” Ashmore said. “When I came back, they had done nothing, so I had to give them an ultimatum to surrender the animals or get charged.”
And when the animals, who have all already been adopted, were finally freed, they were thrilled to finally be able to move freely. “They started running and jumping through the air,” Ashmore said. “They were happy to be able to stretch their legs.”
