Halloween is understandably one of the best nights of the year for kids since they get to dress up as their favorite characters and indulge in as much candy as they can get their hands on.
However, before letting kids inhale every last piece of candy, one Canadian mom has warned parents everywhere to carefully sort through every single piece of candy after her daughter found a sewing needle hidden inside a piece of chocolate she was about to eat.
Jennifer Tickborne had quickly looked over her daughter’s candy to make sure everything was safe to eat, and gave it right back to her daughter when she didn’t find anything wrong with the sweets. But when her little girl opened up a chocolate bar, she snapped it in half just before taking a bite and was stunned to find a sewing needle poking through.
“I freaked,” Tichborne said. “I didn’t know what to think of that. I just couldn’t believe I was actually looking at it.” And while there was no way of telling exactly where the dangerous piece of candy came from, Tichborne called the police to notify them. “They are clearly a very sick individual,” she said. “It’s just wrong.”
Tichborne later shared her story on Facebook and warned other parents to always carefully inspect every piece of candy kids collect during trick-or-treating, and to always throw away anything that looks suspicious or like it has been tampered with.
