Every parent knows that at some point their child is going to fall down and that getting hurt is unavoidable especially when they’re on the playground or at recess.
However, parents do expect that they’ll be notified immediately when their child gets hurt while at daycare or at school, which is why one mom is so upset after her son’s school failed to contact her and tell her that her son was badly injured while out on the playground.
When 9-year-old Brayden Daniels got home from school, his mom Shawnna asked him to bring his bag upstairs to his room like she did every day. “He came home and I told him, ‘I need you to carry your bag to your room,'” Daniels said. “He started to pick up his bag and started bawling. I said, ‘Brayden what’s wrong with you?'”
Brayden told his mom how he had fallen off the slide at school earlier at recess and got a bloody nose, a chipped tooth, and pain in his arms, which was excruciating when he tried to pick anything up. Shawnna drove her son straight to the hospital where they discovered he had broken both of his arms.
“They should have at least notified me. Even with a bloody nose and a broken tooth she should have looked at him, but she told him to ‘go clean up your face and go back to class,'” said Shawnna, who has since enrolled Brayden at a nearby charter school.
