Many dogs love going for car rides and hanging their head out of the window as the wind ruffles their fur, however, it can be incredibly dangerous for them especially if they’re not harnessed in with a doggie seatbelt.
Unfortunately, one Minnesota man had to learn that the hard way when his dog was ejected from the car during an accident on November 18th. Daryl Ahlgren had been driving on a highway when his car was hit by a semi-truck. The car was totaled after it spun and rolled into a ditch and left Daryl trapped inside until first responders could cut him out.
During the accident, his beloved Golden Retriever named Zoey had been sitting in the backseat and was ejected from the rear window. By the time Daryl was freed from the car, Zoey was nowhere to be found, and he feared she had been killed in the wreck.
Daryl, his family, and pet rescue groups looked for Zoey for days, but after two weeks passed, they started fearing the worst. But when the family received a call from a local man who claimed to have seen Zoey walking around that day, they rushed over and put food and blankets out so she would come back.
16 days after the accident, Zoey was found lying on the blankets and the local homeowner managed to get a leash on Zoey and return her to her worried owner, who was thrilled when he finally got to hold Zoey in his arms again.
