One Virginia-based no-kill animal shelter does everything they can to ensure the animals that get brought into through their doors find their forever homes.
Despite being a no-kill shelter, however, the workers at the Richmond Animal League feared one special dog named Wiffle Ball, a five-year-old terrier mix who survived a sever case of heartworm and pneumonia, would never get a chance to find a forever home after they discovered he was dying of lymphoma.
Wiffle Ball didn’t have much time left, but the shelter’s director, Elizabeth Thomas, was determined to find him a loving home since she couldn’t bear the thought of him spending his final Christmas alone in a shelter. The team got to work sharing his story.
Luckily, a loving family heard about Wiffle Ball and decided to bring him home to enjoy his final Christmas and spoil him in his final days. “We want to provide the best last days, months, or however long he has left,” said new owner Thomas, who has been letting Wiffle Ball enjoy ‘Pup Cups’ from Starbucks and an occasional french fry from McDonald’s that are his favorite.
