Dogs are normally pretty aware of their surroundings and nearby danger, however, when one Australian dog spotted a wallaby, she was so determined to catch it that she didn’t realize how close she had gotten to a dangerous cliff.
Six-year-old spaniel Grace ended up running right off a cliff in Tasmania and ended up fighting for her life in the strong currents below. She tried to swim away, but the currents in the blowhole were too strong. Luckily, when the water level in the blowhole rose, she managed to climb up on a ledge in the cliff and wait for help.
Strangers witnessed the accident and immediately called the police for help. Constable Dave Fitzgerald arrived soon after and got to work rescuing the scared dog named Grace by tying a rope to a tree and lowering himself down. “We didn’t know how she would react to strangers trying to grab her, but I think she was very scared and tired and pleased to see a friendly face,” Grace’s owner Trish Alford said after Fitzgerald managed to climb back up the cliff with the exhausted dog in his arms.
“We are so thankful to the strangers who alerted us to what had happened and to the police who rescued her,” Alford said. “I am amazed she is not hurt. All she has is very trimmed down nails from trying to get herself back on the rocks. We were looking for her when we heard what happened. She is very lucky.”
