After a powerful avalanche hit the Rigopiano Hotel in Italy and buried the entire resort last week, rescue workers have been working around the clock to locate and hopefully rescue nearly two dozen people that have been buried in the snow.
For the past five days, the rescue crews have worked tirelessly to save any survivors, yet so far seven people have been confirmed dead and another 22 remain missing. However, this past Monday, the rescuers’ hope was renewed after they discovered three small puppies alive.
The animals were found deep inside the rubble and had been trapped in what was the hotel’s boiler room for five days without food. According to one firefighter, the adorable puppies were ‘a little ray of sunshine,’ to the rescue teams who were beginning to doubt that they’d find anyone alive.
The puppies were then taken to be examined and thankfully all were completely healthy and are set to be reunited with their parents, Nuvola and Lupo, who had been swept away in the avalanche but miraculously survived and were found in a nearby town.
While there are still so many people and possibly more puppies missing, the rescue teams are hoping that other rooms were not filled entirely with snow like the room the puppies were found in, which would mean there could be pockets of air for survivors to breathe.
