A mother is prepared to do absolutely anything for her children and promises to do everything in her power to keep them safe. Now one Wyoming mom is being called a hero for keeping that promise.
The 21-year-old mother, whose name has not been released, had just given birth to her first baby and was home alone with the infant when the house suddenly caught on fire. The young mom immediately called 911 just after 10:30 a.m. but she and her 12-day-old baby were trapped on the second floor of the home.
Fire departments from around the area responded to the call, however, the mom knew there wasn’t enough time to wait since they would both die before help arrived. With no other options, the quick-thinking mom strapped her baby into a car seat, and dropped the baby to the ground from the window.
When rescuers did finally arrive, they found the baby safely sitting on the lawn in the car seat, but tragically, the mother was found in the home and was pronounced dead at the scene. “The victim was a hero as she put her baby in a car seat and dropped the baby to the ground from the upstairs window,” Sheriff Steve Sloan said in a release. The baby was taken to be examined at the nearby OSF St. Luke Medical Center, and thanks to the hero mom, doctors didn’t find any serious injuries.
