Dogs are happiest when they get to spend their time exploring and playing outdoors. Unfortunately, however, not every dog gets to spend so much time outside.
Tragically, dogs who are born and raised in a research lab like a Beagle named Minnie never get to go outside and breath fresh air ever. Two-year-old Minnie was bred in a lab at the Cornell University’s College of Veterinary Medicine in Ithaca, New York and was intended to be used to research anesthesiology, but instead ended up being a teaching animal for graduate students to practice their skills on.
Luckily, Minnie was never harmed or mistreated, but she was never allowed to step outside the lab. “This dog was never harmed physically,” said Reddit user habsman9, who was one of the graduate students who ended up adopting Minnie. “All these clinical trials are subject to strict ethical guidelines that ensure the well-being of the animals.”
“These dogs have a lot of love to give but had no one to give it to, and I gladly became that person,” Minnie’s new owner said. After spending two years inside, Minnie’s new owner could finally take her home and captured the incredible moment she got to step outside for the first time ever. Minnie was understandably overwhelmed with her new surroundings and the cold, uneven ground.
While Minnie shook in amazement, her new owner can’t wait until she adjusts to her new life and her exciting new surroundings.
