After falling down a narrow borehole well, one tiny puppy never thought anyone would ever find him since he was about 200 feet below the ground and could barely even see the sky anymore.
Despite how hopeless the situation seemed, the puppy couldn’t help but cry out for help. Thankfully, some local residents from the town of Beykoz, Turkey heard the faint whimpers and realized that an animal was trapped at the bottom of the well.
The residents quickly reported the situation to local emergency crews who rushed to the scene and got to work thinking of a way to rescue the poor puppy. First, the firemen and animal rescue organization put up a tent around the hole to keep the hole from filling with rain and lowered a camera down to see if the puppy was injured.
No one knows how long the puppy had been trapped there, but he miraculously was unharmed. Unfortunately, the team couldn’t figure out how to safely bring him up and he was forced to spend 10 more days at the bottom of the well as the team figured out what to do.
Finally, the rescue workers lowered a mechanized lasso into the hole, and managed to safely lift the puppy out once the loop was tightened around his neck. At first, the puppy was in shock, but veterinarians determined he was perfectly healthy.
The puppy has since been named Kuyu, which is Turkish for ‘well’, by his rescuers and has even found a forever home with the firefighters that saved his life.
