Siblings know the perfect ways to annoy each other and get under each other’s skin, which is why one Georgia mom wasn’t too surprised when she heard her kids fighting.
Typically, the fights end with 12-year-old Rejaris McClain walking out of the house and taking a short walk around the block to calm down, but this time, mom Emma Knight’s was terrified when her son walked out of the house and didn’t come back for hours.
“I didn’t even know if he hit the woods or was going to cross Gordon highway. It’s busy in this area,” said Knight, who called the police when Rejaris never came home. “I was scared he might’ve gotten hit by a car.” Deputy Stephen Harden from the Richmond County Sherrif’s Office came out immediately to start looking for him.
After he failed to find the 12-year-old, Harden returned back to the family home, but thankfully, Rejaris wasn’t far behind and walked through the door unharmed. “He was covered with dirt because he had been running through the woods,” said Deputy Stephen Harden with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office. “He wouldn’t even look up to talk to me. Could have been scared, upset. At that point, I decided if he was going to look up at me. I was going to get down with him.”
“I was surprised because he doesn’t talk to people. Rejaris will not say anything, but he actually had a conversation with Deputy Harden,” Knight said about her son, who has been struggling in school and with his health. “For him to open up and talk to Deputy Harden it was surprising.”
Now, people are praising Harden for going above and beyond to help the missing boy after he was found, but Harden insists he just wants Rejaris to have someone who understands him and can talk to. “I asked if I can come back and check on him from time to time. Just to see how he was doing,” said Harden.
