Dogs have incredibly sensitive noses and when one UK dog picked up on an unusual smell while on a walk with his owner, he went straight to the source of the smell: an old, battered suitcase lying on train tracks.
The woman could hear something inside so carefully unzipped the suitcase and discovered a mother cat and her eight kittens that looked malnourished. The woman couldn’t bare the thought of leaving them there so she brought them all home and called the RSPCA.
Since the 5-year-old mother cat, who rescuers named Tarini, was in much worse shape than her babies, she was taken straight to the vet and her babies were taken to the RSPCA center. “She was kept at the vets as she was so dehydrated and needed a drip, but has since been moved to the cattery to be with her litter and is doing much better,” said Amy De-Keyzer from the RSPCA.
The kittens, on the other hand, were just five weeks old but were in much better condition. With some extra food and love, they quickly gained back some strength. For now, the little family is recuperating at the RSPCA center and the staff hopes to eventually find them all loving homes. “The kittens are still too young to be rehomed and we need to make sure the mum is healthy enough before being rehomed,” De-Keyzer said.
