A parent would do anything to keep their child safe, and when one Australian dad was faced with losing his son in a dangerous house fire, he was prepared to do whatever he could to save his little boy.
This past week, a faulty air conditioning unit overheated or malfunctioned and sparked a fire in the family’s Melbourne home at around 3:30 in the morning while everyone was fast asleep. Tragically, the smoke alarm never went off, so by the time the mother woke up, the fire was out of control.
The mother quickly grabbed her two young daughters, but their son was still asleep upstairs. The 45-year-old father refused to leave his son to die and bravely ran up the house’s only staircase to the second floor, which was completely engulfed in flames.
The heroic dad managed to save his son but was left with severe burns to his feet and legs, and was quickly rushed to the hospital for treatment when firefighters arrived. Metropolitan Fire Brigade officer Garry Day was stunned that the lucky family made it out alive. “Considering when we arrived there were flames coming through the roof,” he said.
