Owning a pet is a commitment for life, yet when one Nevada family decided to move away, they just abandon their cat on the street and never looked back while he was left to fend for himself.
“His previous owners not only let him roam the neighborhood, but then left him behind when they moved away,” said rescuers from Nevada SPCA after a good samaritan brought the 13-year-old cat in to their shelter. “This docile boy, 13 years of age and 24 pounds in weight, was suffering from some of the most severe matting on a feline that we have seen in years.”
The cat, named Buttercup, wasn’t starving but it was clear he needed help since he was covered in dirty, matted fur. “We cut him straight right away. He looked like he’d had these mats for years,” cat supervisor Debra Herrick said. “Buttercup knew his caretakers wanted to help him and he held still and let them shave away years of accumulated knots and giants matted folds.”
“I think we were all in tears because that’s the worse case we’d ever seen,” staff member Lara Rodriguez said. Despite years of neglect living on the street, Buttercup was happy to be held and showed how much he appreciated their help. “Buttercup loves being held in gentle arms or cuddling up in cozy cat beds,” said the SPCA team who are now looking to find him a loving home. “He is great with other sweet cats. Please share his post to help him finally know and experience what a loving and responsible home feels like, at long, long last.”
