First responders don’t hesitate to put themselves in harm’s way if it means saving someone or something. so when one Ohio firefighter heard a call about a trapped owl, he immediately got to work even though the wild animal could have attacked at any moment.

This past Sunday, a police officer from the Jackson Township Police Department discovered a great horned owl clinging to a tree branch in desperate need of help. At first, the officer thought it was just a trash bag in the tree, but as he got closer, he realized it was actually an owl that got tangled badly in the string of a kite.

The officer called firefighters from the Jackson Township Fire Department for help, and when fireman Mike Wykoff arrived at the scene, he didn’t hesitate to help the injured animal even though he was putting himself at risk of being attacked by the intimidating bird known for its deadly sharp talons.

Wykoff slowly approached the frightened bird and carefully started to untangle the kite. Thankfully, the bird sensed the men were just trying to help and let Wykoff clip away the tangled strings without attacking. After a few minutes, Wykoff managed to free the owl’s wing and brought it to the Wildlife Conservation Center in Hartville for treatment.
