Most expecting moms know that no matter how much they plan and prepare, they have no control over when and where they’ll go into labor.
However, with a whole month left of her pregnancy, one Nebraska mom-to-be thought she still had plenty of time before her daughter arrived. But shortly after Kymica Hubbard entered the Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium in Omaha, Nebraska, she realized her baby girl was on the way and wasn’t going to wait four more weeks in the womb, nor wait until they could get to the hospital.
Hubbard started having contractions while riding the train at the zoo, then she knew it was serious when her water broke in the restroom shortly after. Hubbard and her husband Justin knew they had to head straight to the hospital, but didn’t even make it out of the gate before baby Drea was born. “When I started feeling her head, I was like, ‘Oh my God, my daughter is here. It’s coming! So I got more excited than scared,” said Hubbard.
The birth was so quick that not even the zoo’s staff EMTs made it to her in time, but thankfully Justin is a trained nursing assistant and was able to safely deliver his daughter. “She was crying, cooing. It was just the most beautiful thing that a man could ever see. It was a truly blessed experience,” Justin said.
“I know she’s going to ask, ‘Mom, where was I born?’ I’m like, ‘Okay, you were born at the zoo!'”
