Police officers would do anything for their brothers and sister in blue, and when one Indianapolis police officer lost his life in the line of duty, his police family stepped up to look after his beloved family.

Four years ago, Officer Ray Bradway responded to a domestic violence disturbance was shot six times and killed when he busted down a door of an apartment where he heard a woman screaming for help. His loss was a blow to the police department and his family, including his daughter Sierra who was just 13 years old at the time.

So when it came tie for Sierra, now 17, to go to her senior prom, she planned to have prom photos with date, Brock Spayd, taken at her father’s grave site to include him in the special day. To make the day even more special, Spayd, the son of a Marion County Sheriff’s captain, and his mother reached out to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department and asking for police officers to surprise Sierra at the cemetery.

When Sierra and her date arrived at the cemetery, she was stunned to see dozens of officers waiting to send her off to prom. “Not expecting anyone but a photographer, she steps out to find her thin blue line family,” the department said. “There were lots of laughs, some tears, but most importantly, there was love.”
