While walking down the street one evening, an Australian woman noticed a homeless man’s dog was limping and couldn’t help but ask what was wrong with her.
The homeless man, Pat Quinn, who performs music on the street to make some money, explained that his beloved dog, Rosie, injured her leg. Pat hated that Rosie was in pain but found out that the surgery to fix the torn ligament would cost $3,000 and he had no way to pay for it.
“When I saw Rosie last week. I just couldn’t handle the thought of her having to go without her surgery,” said Laurel Lainio. To try and raise money for the surgery, Laurel started a GoFundMe page. “Just like me she has torn her anterior cruciate ligament & is in pain but Pat can’t afford to have it operated on.”
“He tried to get a loan & even went without food to have her looked at. But now, I’d love for you to help this man & his constant companion. Please give so that Rosie can walk comfortably again!” Laurel wrote on the GoFundMe page, which has raised over $1,000. After a veterinarian heard about Laurel’s mission and offered to do the surgery at a lower cost, Laurel searched the streets to find Pat and Rosie and shared the good news. “I’m just blown away,” Pat said. “I can’t believe it.”
Earlier this week, Rosie finally got the surgery she desperately needed. “Rosy’s surgery went well today! It turns out the injury was worse than they first thought so I’m so glad she was able to be seen to so quickly,” Laurel wrote in an update. “The amazing Veronica Wah Day from Pets & Their People at Fulham Gardens did an amazing job! Hopefully recovery won’t take too long & she’ll be chasing possums up trees in no time!”
