Police officers are often hailed as heroes for risking their lives on the job, but one South Carolina cop is a hero in one woman’s eyes for doing something as simple as driving her when the car she was in broke down.
Kelly Bushey Walker spent months planning her wedding so that everything would be perfect on the big day. However, it was almost ruined when the limo they rented broke down on the way to the ceremony. “After ten minutes of my bridal party being in a hot and steamy limo with sweat beading down our faces, I began to worry. My worry then turned into fear when our limo broke down on the side of the road 30 minutes away from the chapel,” Kelly explained in a post to Facebook.
Kelly was afraid she’d have to wait to get on one of the guest buses, which would get her to the chapel late, but then Deputy Taylor East from the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office saved the day. “[He asked if] we were okay and wanted to know what was going on,” she said. “We asked him if he could drive me so that none of my guests would see me before getting to the chapel. Deputy East made me feel at ease and assured me I would make it to my wedding. I forgot all of my worries once I was in his car. My sister and maid of honor also came along for the ride.”
Thanks to Deputy East, Kelly got to her wedding ten minutes early. “His service to me, my new husband, and my family that day will always be something that I will hold dear in my heart… Not many brides can say they arrived to their wedding in a sheriff’s car, but I feel honored that the Greenville Sheriff”s Department took time out of their day to make sure my wedding could go on as planned and on time. I will forever be thankful for your service!”
