Normally police officers are considered heroes for risking their lives to save others, but three Connecticut cops are being hailed as heroes for the simple thing they did when a young boy’s favorite possession was stolen.

When 12-year-old Naz Harding’s bike was stolen, he was crushed because it meant he couldn’t ride around with his friends anymore. Soon after, Officer Tyrell Jenkins, Officer Kevin Smalls, and Officer Christopher White from the Hartford Police Department heard about what happened and decided to step in and help.

“They do a lot for the community so we wanted to do something for them,” Officer White said about Naz, who is part of the department’s youth program, and his mom, Cathy Harding. “We felt the need to make it right.” Together, the three cops split the cost of a brand new bike and recently surprised Naz with the gift and let him take it for a test ride.

“Thank you for buying me a bike. [I was] surprised and happy, because I could ride my bike with my friends [again],” Naz said. “It was pretty cool of them to stop on their busy days fighting crime and doing what they’re doing just to give my son a bike,” Cathy said. “Just to give him back a bike, just as simple as riding with his friends means so much to these kids.”
