After spending the past two years in prison, one 32-year-old Connecticut father has been working hard to stay out of trouble and build a life for himself and his young son.
However, when Aaron Tucker was on a bus this past week on his way to a job interview in Stanford, he witnessed a car accident that left a car overturned on the side of the road. Tucker desperately needed a job, but decided to get off the bus and help the victim instead.
“I asked the bus driver, ‘Are you going to help?'” Tucker said. “He said, ‘No, and if you get out, I’m going to leave you.’ I seen the car smoking up, and the bus driver was still talking. The car started smoking, so I just ran out.” Tucker and several other strangers from an auto repair shop nearby ran over and worked together to pull the 61-year-old driver out before the car lit on fire. “Someone needed my help, and that’s what I did. I helped them.”
People in the community quickly heard about Tucker’s bravery and selflessness, so local woman Karin Dale started a GoFundMe page to thank Tucker for his kind act and help him in a difficult time.
“No matter what happened in the past, he’s a good guy and he needs a break. I think he’s proven what his character’s like,” said Dale, who has raised over $53,000 for Tucker in just three days. “He loves his boy. When he talks about him, he really genuinely beams through the phone. He loves him and wants a different path for his son than he had,” Dale added. “I feel that they’re better people than me, taking the time out to help me and my son,” Tucker said. “I appreciate that.”
Tucker plans to save as much of the money as possible and create a college fund for his son, and although he missed his job interview, they decided to give him another chance when they found out when he didn’t show up. “It’s alright to hear people saying i’m a hero. That’s their point of view. But to me, if it happened again, I’m going to continue to do it because it’s the right thing,” Tucker said.
