Landscaping isn’t normally a police officer’s job, however, one Louisiana police officer made it his responsibility when he saw an elderly man struggling in the heat.
While driving home with his kids, Captain Cortrell Davis from the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office spotted an elderly man struggling to mow his lawn as he drove by. “Captain Davis, who is the Warden at the Lafourche Parish Detention Center, said his heart sank when he saw this, and he just had to see if he could help,” Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office wrote in a post on Facebook.
“It was a hot day and the grass was pretty high,” Davis said. “I had the opportunity to help somebody in need and I just wanted to seize the moment.” Davis turned the car around and asked the man if he could help him out. “The resident, Mr. Larry Johnson, happily accepted the assistance, and Captain Davis finished cutting his entire yard,” the Sheriff’s office said.
“I’m always trying to give back, always trying to be a positive role model, a mentor,” Davis said.“He was very appreciative. His facial expression probably said more than his words. He had this kid-like smile on his face and just had the expression of thanks all over him.”
“This is something we all could be doing — seizing the moment.”
