When one South Carolina mother’s kids begged her to adopt a pet, she was hesitant at first. But now, that mother-of-six is praising the family pet for saving their lives.
Earlier this week, the family’s outdoor cat named Luna snuck into the family’s home in the middle of the night while everyone was asleep and refused to leave mom Emily Chappell-Root alone until she woke up. When Emily finally stopped trying to ignore Luna, she realized the cat was just trying to save their lives.

“She was insistent, you’re getting up. I got up and walked out the bedroom door and got a few steps down the hallway and realized there were flames licking around the door frame into the kitchen,” Emily said. She quickly woke up all her children and led them outside.

Thanks to Luna, the entire family managed to escape the fire, which destroyed almost everything inside. “If she didn’t wake me up we may not have all gotten out. I am really really blessed to have her and that everyone got out,” said Emily, who felt blessed for what Luna did for her family.

Despite not originally wanting Luna, Emily is now spoiling her with treats and affection. “She will be on wet food for life. Wherever we go has to be a home that will let her go with us,” said Emily.
