After making a dating profile on a popular dating app, a woman named Carol hoped that she would meet someone online and that it would lead to a genuine connection with them. So when she was matched with a man she thought was attractive, she was excited to see if they had anything in common.
The Match
“He’s a very, very handsome man. His eyes are absolutely gorgeous,” she said about the man, Mike Gonzales. According to Mike’s profile, he was 45 years old and claimed he was a sports and physical education expert. Carol liked that Mike’s profile said he was a fun-loving guy but was only interested in serious relationships…

Making Plans
After exchanging a few flirty messages, Mike suggested that they go out on a date this past May at a local restaurant in Pasadena, California. Carol happily agreed to meet him as she believed it may lead to a real relationship, or at the very least, she would have a fun night out at a nice restaurant…
The First Date
Sadly, however, that’s not what happened. When Carol arrived at the restaurant, Mike had already eaten a full meal of fish tacos but assured her he had room for more food. “He kind of like patted his stomach,” Carol explained, “and said, ‘I know it’s probably surprising, but you’ll be surprised I can eat two meals.’”

After finishing up his meal, however, Mike told Carol that he had to use the bathroom and excused himself. After a few minutes, Carol thought maybe her date wasn’t feeling well, but she was confused when he never came back from the bathroom.

According to the manager, other customers in the restaurant spotted Gonzales and recognized him as the dine-and-dash dater as he had been on the news in the past for using a woman looking for love for a free meal.
The Confrontation
The customers notified the manager about what was happening, so when Gonzales, whose real name isn’t Mike but actually Paul, was about to ditch Carol, the manager confronted him. The manager held up a picture of him from old articles in the news, and Gonzales admitted it was him…
A Jilted Date
Gonzales left before police were called, and the manager went to Carol to explain what had happened. Thankfully, the restaurant comped her meal. Carol was in shock at first, but the more she’s thought about what happened, the angrier she’s gotten.

Carol didn’t know it at the time, but she was just the latest of a string of women that had been targeted by Gonzales and used for a free meal. Recently, another California woman, whose name has not been released to the media, was also targeted by Gonzales. Like Carol, she met him through a dating app.
Too Good To Be True
According to the woman, Gonzales’ smooth-talking made her believe he had feelings for her. When he invited her out to another restaurant, Smitty’s Bar and Grill, in Pasadena, she was excited to finally meet him. “He was good looking… right away I think, why did he choose me,” the woman said…
Another Large Order
During their date, Gonzales ordered a copious amount of food. “He ordered a salad with shrimp, a filet mignon, yes, he went all out,” said the woman, who thought the date had been going well until he vanished after finishing almost all of his large meal and 2 cups of coffee.
The Excuse
“All of a sudden he’s all, oh, my phone’s dying and I’m waiting on the call from my mom about my aunt. I’m going to go to the car to get my charger and then my first comment to him when he got up was oh what, you’re not coming back,” she said…
Left With The Bill
10 minutes later, the woman realized Gonzales really wasn’t coming back. In the end, the woman was left to pay a $130 bill mostly for food she hadn’t eaten. “I didn’t mention it to the restaurant, nothing. I think I was more embarrassed, my pride was just like, you know, I felt dumb,” the jilted woman said.
A Warning
Like Carol, however, the woman decided to speak out about Gonzales to publicly shame him for what he’s doing as well as warn other women not to fall for his trap. “I think he owes every woman an apology,” she said, “I think that would humble him by having to apologize to the women…”
A Criminal Record
A handful of other women have also come forward accusing Gonzales of dining and dashing during a first date. According to the police, Gonzales has 2 arrest warrants for petty theft and driving without a license. In 2017, it was reported that he ran out of a hair salon without paying after getting his hair cut and colored.
A Real Crime
“There is an ongoing investigation into (the) activities’ of Gonzales, who is believed to be a resident of Pasadena living with his mother in her apartment. Dine-and-dash is considered a crime in the state of California,” the police said. “It’s a crime to dine-and-dash,” attorney Kelly Chang Rickert added. “You can be jailed for up to six months or fined up to $1,000 if your dine-and-dash bill was under $950.”
