We are living in an increasingly hostile world filled with loss, sadness, and tragedy. Yet, this world is also full of joy, magic, and love. The only difference is how you choose to look at it.
His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama believes that each person has the power to live compassionately, and change the future for the better. He has dedicated his life to teaching the world compassion and love, and his words are all the more important as we are faced with the choice of love or hate every single day.
15. What’s inside is far more important than the outside.
I often tease young people about their concern for how they look; more important is inner beauty – compassion, affection and respect.

14. Anger is never the solution.
It would help if there were greater understanding that anger never helps to solve a problem.

13. You decide what the future will be like.
The future is in your hands, but for it to be peaceful and happy requires a sense of compassion and concern for others’ well-being.

12. Prayer alone won’t change the world.
It's unrealistic to think that the future of humanity can be achieved through prayer or good wishes alone; what we need is to take action.

11. Loving yourself and others is the most important thing.
Loving is of even greater importance than being loved.
— Dalai Lama (@DalaiLama) August 27, 2015

Compassion reduces our fear, boosts our confidence, and opens us to inner strength.

9. The truth is stronger than guns.
The gun may seem more decisive in the short term, but in the long term the power of truth is stronger.
— Dalai Lama (@DalaiLama) July 10, 2015
8. Being strong means being compassionate.
A truthful, compassionate attitude is a sign of strength. It’s lying and anger that betray weakness.
— Dalai Lama (@DalaiLama) June 19, 2015
7. You have the ability to make the world a better place.
Ask yourselves now and then, "How can I contribute to human beings being happier and more at peace?"
— Dalai Lama (@DalaiLama) June 1, 2015
6. Happiness depends on you, not circumstance.
Our potential for positive and negative emotions is the same, but intelligence is our special quality. Use it well; be successful and happy.
— Dalai Lama (@DalaiLama) April 20, 2015
5. Compassion is a commitment.
True compassion isn’t just an emotional response, it’s a firm commitment founded on reason, which doesn’t change if others behave badly.
— Dalai Lama (@DalaiLama) February 16, 2015
4. Finding fault in others is useless.
Being aware of a single shortcoming within yourself is far more useful than being aware of a thousand in someone else.
— Dalai Lama (@DalaiLama) January 30, 2015
3. Your happiness depends on others.
If you make others happy, you’ll be happy. If you make others unhappy, you’ll be miserable.
— Dalai Lama (@DalaiLama) October 31, 2014
2. Forgiveness is the cure to anger.
If you’re angry and resentful it’s like being part of a chain reaction; forgiveness puts a stop to anger, ill-will and a desire for revenge.
— Dalai Lama (@DalaiLama) September 29, 2014
1. Turn the negative into a positive.
If tragedy strikes, don’t lose hope. Transform it into an opportunity to make things better.
