As if breastfeeding three hungry newborn triplets wasn’t already a challenge, this mom was struggling to not miss a breast-pumping session while also staying discreet in her cramped coach seat on a Delta flight.
Yet when two flight attendants spotted Jenna on a flight from Atlanta to Dallas with her breast pumping gear, they offered her an empty first class seat instead of scolding her to cover up and use the bathroom.
“As a breastfeeding mother to triplets, it’s important that I not miss a breast-pumping session, especially when traveling. Yesterday, two flight attendants, Kaitlin K and Loretta, on my flight from Atlanta to Dallas-Love Field, allowed me to sit in an empty first class seat for more space and privacy while I pumped in flight,” Jenna wrote in a post to Delta’s Facebook page that has now been liked over 56,000 times.
“Initially, I was completely overwhelmed by the shares and responses to my post but have since embraced the opportunity to advocate for the parent,” Jenna said. “If even one mother is more comfortable feeding her child because of my post, then it makes the overwhelming response worth it.”
“They offered me snacks and provided TONS of water during my pumping session. Additionally, on my return flight this afternoon, the Dallas-Love Field gate attendant, Talesa, offered me an empty first-class seat so I could do the same,” Jenna wrote.
“Our children have to eat and we should never apologize for that,” Jenna told ABC News. “This is an opportunity to recognize Delta’s role in supporting the parent’s decision-making and bringing a new reality to fruition.”
