Firefighters routinely risk their lives for people and animals they’ve never met, and will most likely never see again. Despite the risk, however, they always are willing to put others’ safety ahead of their own when they know they are making a difference.
When firefighters from the Los Angeles Fire Department arrived at the scene of a burning apartment building in Koreatown, they managed to rescue a woman who was stuck in her wheelchair, and an unresponsive bulldog named Potato.
Potato was unconscious and unable to breathe when firemen found him on the floor in the apartment where the fire had started. After carrying him outside, the determined firefighters gave him oxygen, water, and gently pat his stomach until he was revived.
“We’re happy to report we spoke to the owner and Potato is doing well at the vet… getting a checkup,” LAFD Battalion Chief Dean Zipperman said. “I’m glad we can help the people we do. It’s gratification. Every day we go home and we feel we made a difference and impact.”
