Parents are supposed to be the ones to take care of and look after their children in times of need, but this man’s guardian angel turned out to be his own son.
60-year-old Michael Kiddy was at work stocking shelves at a Food Lion in North Carolina when his heart suddenly stopped beating and he fell to the floor. Luckily, an 18-year-old student and some nurses began performing CPR until the first responders, including his own son, could arrive at the scene.
Moments later, firefighters from the Valdese Fire Department got there and immediately started respirations.
Fireman Steve Kiddy, who also happened to be Michael’s son, automatically went into life-saving mode as his training had prepared him to do. However, the man’s face was covered with the CPR mask so he had no idea the man dying on the floor was his own father.
“My chief came up and asked me if I’m alright,” Steve said. “And then it dawned on me to check and see who this person is.”
Michael was rushed to the hospital where doctors took over and amazingly managed to revive him without any lasting damage being done. “It’s special because they say I was really, really gone,” Michael said. “And here I sit.”
