Most kids wouldn’t be caught dead hugging their mom or dad in front of their entire sixth-grade class, but then again, most kids don’t know what it’s like to not see their parent for over a year, and question whether or not they’ll ever even see their parent again.
When twin brother and sister Logan and Kaylee got a surprise visit from their dad Sergeant Louis Grady who had been deployed in Bahrain for over a year, they didn’t hesitate to give their dad a huge hug despite having their entire class watching. At first, Logan and Kaylee were more concerned about getting their work done when the entire sixth grade class at the Mint Hill Middle School was called down to the gymnasium for a special guest, but as soon as they saw who the special guest was, they were both overwhelmed and overjoyed.
“When they said that we were going to an assembly, I was like I have so much work to do, but I had no idea this was going to happen. I missed him,” Logan said.
“Fantastic. Fantastic. It’s been over a year. I’ve missed these two monkeys immensely,” Sergeant Grady said. “Skype does not do them justice on that tiny little screen. Good Gracious, this one is almost as tall as I am.”
