If you’ve ever visited an animal shelter, you know how much shelters can feel like an animal prison rather than a temporary home, which is why so many animals struggle so show off their real personalities and instead look sad, anxious, and afraid.
To give these animals the chance they deserve, Sarah Wolfgang decided to open the first dog cafe in the United States where people can play and cuddle animals from local animal shelters while having some tea or coffee. For just $10, visitors get one drink and an entire 55 minutes of play time with lovable pups.
“The Dog Cafe offers a comfortable and fun space for humans and dogs to hang out with each other, away from overcrowded shelters, which can provoke fear and aggression in perfectly adoptable pups,” the cafe explained. “In addition to helping worthy pups find homes, we also offer the opportunity for people unable to have pets of their own to spend quality time with furry friends (and vice versa) without the commitment of adoption.”
The cafe is partnered with local shelters that send dogs who would be overlooked in a shelter setting, and would benefit the most from the social interaction. And should a patron get attached to one of the adorable dogs, they are all available and ready for adoption. “Our whole adoption process can take up to a month. We understand that this is a lengthy process, but this ensures that our dogs go to homes that are 100% ready to make a lifetime commitment to their new four-legged family member,” the Los Angeles-based cafe explained.
“When visitors see our dogs here with us, they see them in their true light,” Wolfgang said.
