Bretagne (pronounced ‘Britney’) is an incredibly brave rescue dog. In fact, she is the last known living search and rescue dog who worked at ground zero.
After hearing that Bretagne’s 16th birthday was coming up, Bark Box decided to surprise this special dog to thank her for her service and celebrate her big day.
Bark Box and 1 Hotels teamed up to fly Bretagne and her family to New York from Texas on Aug. 22nd to celebrate her birthday (which is actually Aug. 25th) and honor this New York City hero and her mom.
This brave rescue dog and her owner, Denise Corliss, were part of the Texas Task Force 1, which was deployed to New York on Sept. 11, 2001. They helped search for and find people trapped underneath the rubble of the World Trade Center.
Today, she is the last known search and rescue dog who worked at ground zero.
Bretagne was driven around in a vintage taxi, visited a dog park, and was given the ‘doggy equivalent to the key to the city,’ which was a Tiffany & Co. silver dog bone charm. It read: “Thank you Britagne, from the dogs of Hudson River Park.”
Britagne was showered with gifts including treats, chew toys, and even her own 16th birthday cake.
