After a challenging year, one family of four was in need of a family vacation, where they could forget all their troubles temporarily and just enjoy their precious time together. However, before they could start their dream vacation, they had to make it there.
Father-of-two Paddy Doyle had recently been diagnosed with brain cancer, but wanted to get away with his family so he could enjoy some quality time with them and forget for a little while that he was fighting for his life. Together, with his wife Carrie, the couple planned their dream vacation to Portugal with their 5-year-old daughter Ruby and almost 2-year-old son Jack.
Yet two days before they were supposed to leave for their holiday, Jack came down with chickenpox and mom thought their trip would have to be canceled. Luckily, however, she got the all-clear from the doctor and notified the airline, and everything was back on schedule.
“So we got all the way to the airport today, actually boarded the plane, seat belts on and everything! To then be told by a flight attendant that we had to get off!!! We couldn’t believe what we were hearing…!! Because of Jack’s chicken pox, even though he’s had the all clear from the Dr’s and even though when we booked they knew the situation…! Apparently it was all from bad communication and because we did have a fit to fly letter from the Doctor! Heartbroken wasn’t the word,” Carrie wrote on to Facebook.
“When I had to tell Ruby to get off she was so confused and upset to be told that we weren’t going on holiday again,” said Cassie, who almost broke down in tears as she consoled her family. Yet as they sat there devastated waiting for their bags to be removed from the flight, Zita Small, an airport employee of 20 years approached them.
Carrie explained everything to the stranger, who had recently lost her own husband. “You and your beautiful family will be going on that holiday,” Small said. She immediately got to work arranging a new flight in first class the next morning at no cost, stored their luggage in her office overnight, and even drove the family to the doctor so they could get the fit to fly note from their doctor.
“Not only did Zita make this holiday happen, but we’ve had VIP treatment all the way through. She went completely out of her way with no benefit to her whatsoever, Carrie said. “It’s heart-warming to know what a beautiful world we do live in.”
