Many brides dream of the special moment their dads will walk them down the aisle on their wedding day, however, that dream was crushed for one bride after her father passed away.
After planning an entire wedding, bride Jeni Stepien was ready to walk down the aisle and marry her soulmate, however, she still couldn’t imagine doing it without her dad, Michael, who had been murdered in 2006. After tragically passing, Michael’s heart was donated to New Jersey man Arthur Thomas, who was about to die without the transplant. “I was on death’s door when he was murdered and I needed a heart or I was going to be dying in the next few days,” Thomas said.
Before the wedding, Jeni decided to track down the man who had received her father’s heart, and wrote him a letter asking if he would do the honors of walking her down the aisle. “What a greater honor could a person have than walking the daughter of the man who’s given his heart to him. I can’t imagine a greater honor,” said Thomas, who traveled to Pennsylvania for the wedding.
For the first time in 10 years, Jeni was able to hear her father’s heart beat, and was overjoyed that his heart was with her on the most important day of her life. “I was just so thankful that my dad could be here with us today in spirit and a piece of his physical being as well. That was really special for us,” she said.
“You can never imagine what that would be like unless you actually do it because so many emotions involved in what you’re doing,” Thomas said.
