Coming up with a baby name that both mom and dad agree on can be nearly impossible, since it’s the name their future child will have for the rest of their lives. However, for one couple, picking the name was fairly easy. Keeping it, on the other hand, turned out to be more difficult.

When mom Carri Kessler and her husband were picking out a name for their second daughter, there was one name that they both loved and agreed on: Ottilie. “I have a friend in the U.K. named Ottilie and it’s beautiful, and ever since I heard that name I’ve wanted to use it,” Kessler explained.

However, the minute their little girl was born, they started second guessing the name they picked out. “The nurse came in and asked what her name was, and we said, ‘Ottilie’,” Kessler said. “And she was like, ‘What?’ No one could remember it and no one could pronounce it. I was like, ‘If you say it with a British accent, it sounds really good!’ And people said, ‘But you’re from Maryland.'”

“Anytime anyone said her name, I kind of cringed. Introducing her made me sweat. And I thought, we’re going to keep having to introduce her! This is going to be a problem forever,” said Kessler, who knew the name wasn’t going to work six weeks later when her own grandmother couldn’t remember the name. “She said, ‘I don’t know how to say her name. I have Post-its all over the house so I can remind myself,'” Kessler said. “And I was like, f—. We’re f—ed. We’re totally f—ed.”

After three months, Kessler couldn’t take it anymore, and brought up the topic with her husband, who was extremely relieved that his wife was having the same second thoughts. “Then we were like, ‘This is so exciting, we can rename her!'” she said. “All we did was talk about names. Is she this? Is she that? I felt like she was anything simple that wouldn’t give me anxiety.”

Ultimately, with the family’s approval, Kessler and her husband renamed their little girl ‘Margot’ and they haven’t looked back since. “We sent out a mass email. It was like, ‘Hey! Remember Ottilie? Her name’s Margot now,” Kessler said. “I honestly take her out now so people can ask her what her name is and I can tell them it’s Margot. It’s a great thing. It’s really taken a lot of stress out of my life.”
