For many brides, finding the perfect wedding dress is one of the most important parts of planning a wedding, aside from finding the perfect partner, since it has to make the bride feel beautiful and confident on one of the most important days of her life.
However, after walking down the aisle, those dresses often get stuffed in the back of a closet taking up space for years, which is why one Kentucky bride decided to do something very different with her wedding dress after realizing her wedding dress had already spent years forgotten in the closet.
Justi Underwood Bates loved her wedding dress and how it made her feel on her special day, but was crushed knowing it was being wasted in the back of the closet. “It meant too much to me to just let it hang there and be forgotten about for the next few decades so I sent it off to be made into angel gowns and to have a purpose,” Bates said.
“Today I received my wedding gown back,” Bates explained in a post to Facebook that has been shared 76 thousand times. “I sent it off earlier this year to be made into angel gowns for babies that don’t make it home from the hospital and I’ll be donating them to the NICU at Vanderbilt.”
“Now the word is out that a wedding dress can do more than take up closet space,” Bates said and explained her wedding dress made 17 little gowns. “It can be a small help for family in a tragic situation… as beautiful as they are I pray they are never needed.”
