Animal rescue teams are unfortunately used to saving homeless and abused animals who are afraid of strangers and at times being touched, however, normally they calm down a little once they realize they’re in good hands.
When officers rescuers found a tiny month-old kitten, they couldn’t understand why she was so petrified. Once they got a closer look, however, it all made sense when they realized she had been burned purposely by an abuser.
“A call came through the Baltimore City Animal Control 311 system, from a concerned citizen that found an injured, stray kitten nearly lifeless on her first story window sill. When the officers arrived, they found Duckie, seared and in extreme pain—they rushed her immediately to our shelter and into the exam room of our BARCS medical team,” Baltimore Animal and Rescue Care Shelter, Inc. (BARCS) wrote on their Facebook.
“It was immediately clear that Duckie’s injuries were the result of fire. Her little “bean” pads on her feet are painful and a deep red, her ears are freshly burned from the tips down; her whiskers are short, spiky and singed,” BARCS explained about the abused kitten they named Duckie.
“There is minimal burning on other parts of her body, which lead our staff veterinarians to believe that this was purposeful, targeted and done by a person with intent to harm.”
BARCS is determined to help baby Duckie, but are now spreading her story to help fund her expensive treatments since they are struggling with the expenses on their own. “BARCS is not going to say ‘no’ to Duckie, but we need funds to back up this promise.”
If you would like to help baby Duckie get the treatment she desperately needs after a monster burned off her ears, whiskers, and paw pads, please visit the shelter’s donation page.
