Asy any pet owner knows, animals are far more than just furry companions. Animals like cats and dogs become beloved members of the family, which is why one Italian woman refused to leave the site of her home after it was destroyed by a deadly earthquake and her cat went missing.
Last Wednesday night, Daniela Tursini had been sitting at home with her beloved cat, Gioia, like she normally did. However, before the night was over, a deadly 6.2-magnitude earthquake hit her town of Amatrice in Italy. Daniela was lucky to escape from her home before it completely collapsed, however, she failed to save Gioia after she immediately hid in fear of the tremors.
Daniela was obviously upset about the destruction of her home, but was devastated that her cat was gone. She immediately started to look for Gioia and called out for her, and when firefighters first got to the area, she begged them to look for her cat.
“I beg you, find my cat, she’s all I have left,” Daniela said to a rescue worker. “My house is gone, I’ve lost everything.” However, they failed to find her cat, and as days went by she started fearing the worst.
However, nearly six days after the earthquake, a firefighter had been clearing some debris from around Daniela’s home found Gioia alive. They immediately gave her water, brought her to a vet who deemed she miraculously unharmed aside from dehydration, and then returned Gioia to her concerned owner.
