Usually, when animal rescue teams arrive on site to save a homeless, abandoned, or abused dogs, the terrified animals immediately run away and try to hide out of fear, which is why two rescuers were stunned when they found a dog in an old rundown barn.
Jessica Kincheloe and a fellow groomer had been contacted to help a dog who had been trapped inside an old barn, and when they arrived at the location, they found Lazarus the dog stuck inside the barn living in filth. However, when they got the door to open, Lazarus surprisingly didn’t move.
At first, the two girls couldn’t figure out why Lazarus wasn’t trying to run away, but as they got closer, they realized the dog physically couldn’t walk. “From the looks of the dog and the door it looked like it had been a while,” said the dog groomer.
The two immediately got to work trying to free him from the stall and his massive, matted, and dirty fur. As expected, Lazarus started getting anxious, but Kincheloe explained that “he calmed down and seemed to realize because it was making him feel better.”
By the time the two groomers were done giving him the overdue haircut, they had cut off about 35 pounds of fur, which had made it nearly impossible for him to walk. “He was OK with the human touch but didn’t seem familiar to it. He warmed up to us really quick. Especially after offering treats,” Kincheloe said.
Lazarus was taken in by the Big Fluffy Dog Rescue, but ever since being freed from his heavy fur, he’s been getting used to his freedom and his new life.
