As any parent knows, getting kids to eat healthy can be a struggle, which is why one Virginia mom was happy to give her son a banana. However, she had no idea that the ‘healthy’ snack had something deadly lurking inside.
One afternoon, mom Kiersta Woodard gave her little boy a banana as a snack like she usually did, and like normal, she gave it to him unpeeled since he always insists on doing it himself. However, seconds later she heard baby William scream and turned to see him throw the half-peeled banana across the table.
“AHHHH!!!! One of my fears just came true!!! My son was eating his banana ((that he enjoys peeling himself)) and he screams and throws the almost fully eaten banana!! Next thing you know,” Woodard explained, “I see legs crawling across my table and some sort of sac on the end of the banana!!”
When Woodard looked closer, she realized a spider had managed to crawl out from a sac in the banana. Not only is finding a live insect in your food terrifying but possibly dangerous since many tropical fruits like bananas are imported from places where deadly spiders nest inside food.
“This was absolutely terrifying for us, not only because I’m that girl petrified of spiders, but because this situation could have ended very badly, possibly even deadly. We are so fortunate and grateful that William noticed this spider and threw the banana. And thank God it had banana on top of it making it move slowly so I could control this situation and kill it,” Woodard said.
“We never, EVER, would have imagined something like this happening to us. Please be sure to thoroughly inspect your fruits and veggies, especially for your little ones and elderly. Peel the WHOLE banana!! …or just switch to baby food bananas in a jar lol. Regardless, I am so grateful my son is okay!”
