Once moms find a brand of baby products that they know and trust is safe and healthy for their babies, they often choose to buy from that brand exclusively.

For months, UK mom Michelle Brooks has been buying Cow and Gate’s baby food because it was a brand she trusted. However, Brooks is now warning parents to never buy food from the brand after it left her 5-month-old daughter Mia fighting food poisoning in the hospital.

“I thought I’d give Mia a quick pudding, but had no idea it would turn into such a nightmare. I’ve always used Cow and Gate, it was a brand I trusted,” Brooks said. “I opened the jar and everything was normal, when Mia took her first bite, she made a sour face, but she always does that so I didn’t think anything of it.”

Two hours later, however, baby Mia started throwing up, so Brooks called an ambulance and decided to take a better look at the baby food. “I gave the bottom of it a stir, and up came all this disgusting green mold. It was vile,” Brooks said about the baby food that wasn’t supposed to expire until 2018. And when she opened another jar of the baby food, she saw a big clump of  mold sitting on the surface.

A paramedic monitored Mia for a half an hour and left once she started to improve, yet Brooks decided to take her to the hospital a week later after she still hadn’t gotten better. Once there, the doctors determined Mia had food poisoning and kept her overnight.

“I cannot stress enough, the jar was in mint condition when I bought it. It even made that popping noise. But it could be a factory problem and I would want people to know, there could be thousands of jars that are moldy,” Brooks said. “I will never buy anything from Cow and Gate again, I am utterly disgusted.”
