When humans give birth to their newborns, they rely on their parents to learn everything from like eating, walking, and talking. And it turns out elephants are pretty similar.

After being pregnant for 22 months, one mother elephant from the Chobi National Park in Botswana was finally ready to give birth, and with the help of her herd, she finally welcomed her 200-pound bundle of joy in a rare day birth, which was caught on camera by Christian and Ginette Leroy.

After birth, many newborn elephants need a little help from their mother and the rest of the herd to stand up for the first time, however, the baby struggled to move after getting stuck inside the amniotic sac during birth. Incredibly, the herd was quick to help the infant out and started tearing away the sac with their trunks.

Once free from the sac, the herd worked together to cover both the baby and the sac with dirt to cover the scent of blood so they wouldn’t attract any predators, and then patiently waited for the baby to stand up and even take her first step.
