Every parent knows that sugar-filled candy bars aren’t the healthiest choice for their growing children, but when they do allow a sweet treat, they expect that nothing in the candy will seriously harm their little ones.
So when one 13-year-old from Indiana got home from a night of trick-or-treating on Halloween, her mom decided to let her indulge in some of her hard-earned candy. However, when the 13-year-old bit into a fun-sized Three Musketeers bar, she screamed out in pain after biting into a razor blade, which sliced open the inside of her mouth.
“They reported that she had bitten into a Three Musketeers bar that she had picked up on Halloween night and that she had lacerated the inside of her mouth as a result of a piece of metal found inside the candy,” said Hamilton County Sheriff Mark Bowen. “She’s going to be fine, but she does have some injuries to the inside of her mouth as a result of what was a piece of metal found inside of that treat-sized candy bar.”
Now the police are spreading this mom’s warning to ensure parents always inspect their children’s candy to ensure it’s safe. “We’re encouraging parents obviously to check the candy to make sure everything’s fine,” Deputy Jimmy Pharis said. “Oh wow. Now that, to me, is very scary,” said Ryan Curley, a father of five. “This is a wake-up call. We will be now. For sure.”
