Having a baby is one of the biggest financial commitments a person can make, and those expenses start the second you walk into the hospital to give birth.
Between the overnight stay at the hospital, prenatal, delivery, and post-partum care, it costs on average almost $9,000 to give birth in a hospital in the United States. However, when one Florida mom started giving birth before actually making it into the hospital, she figured she wouldn’t have to pay quite as much since she never made it into the delivery room.
After Paula D’Amore had noticed her water had broken, her husband rushed her to the Boca Raton Regional Hospital. By the time they pulled up to the hospital, their baby girl had already begun crowning, and Paula had no choice but to start giving birth in her car.
Paula’s husband managed to catch the baby’s head just as nurses arrived to take over and safely deliver the baby girl. The couple knew they would still have to pay the hospital, but figured they wouldn’t have to pay for the delivery room fee. But when they finally got the bill, they saw the hospital charged them the full $7,000 cost, which they feel is “a little outrageous. They are basically saying that everything was billed appropriately.”
Do you think this couple should be charged the full amount for the delivery room even though they never stepped foot inside? Let us know what you think in the comments below, and please SHARE this with friends on Facebook.
