By the time a baby’s due date arrives, most parents have chosen where they’ll give birth, what route they’ll take to the hospital, and who will perform the delivery.

Virginia-based expectant parents Hugh and Stephanie Dawson had spent the months before the due date planning everything about their second baby’s birth. They had chosen to give birth at the Sentara Princess Anne Hospital, which was normally 40 minutes from their home and figured they’d have plenty of time to get there once Stephanie’s water broke.

When she finally went into labor a week after the due date at around 3:30 in the morning, the couple looked outside and saw a snowstorm and realized their plan might not work out. The couple quickly defrosted Hugh’s truck and got on the road within 20 minutes, but 40 minutes into the drive Stephanie knew they wouldn’t make it. “We’re not making it to Princess Anne,” she said since her contractions were just three minutes apart by then.

The couple decided to exit the highway and go to a closer hospital down the road, yet while on the exit ramp, Hugh’s truck suddenly died. “I didn’t know the truck had broken down,” Stephanie said. “He just hopped out of the truck.” Hugh managed to spot a snow plow on the other side of the road, flagged it down, and begged the driver to help.

“I was kind of jumping in the street and making sure that he saw me,” Hugh said. He explained the situation, and thankfully, the driver let them in and dropped them off at the hospital just in time.

15 minutes later, Stephanie gave birth to a 6 pound 13-ounce baby boy named Brayden. “Luckily, if it wasn’t for the plow, we probably would have been having him in the middle of Battlefield Boulevard walking here,” the couple said.

Can you believe how lucky the couple was that the plow stopped for them? Let us know what you think in the comments below and please SHARE this with friends on Facebook.
