When one kind-hearted pizza delivery guy was on his way to deliver an order, he spotted a small dog dash out into a busy street, and he knew that someone would end up hitting him if he was left out there on his own.
Even though Steven Donovan, a Papa John’s delivery man, was in the middle of his shift, he couldn’t bear to leave the dog behind to get run over. “I was about to turn onto a major road and I saw him run across the street,” Donovan said. “I immediately turned around and went back. I couldn’t just leave the dog out there.”
Donovan managed to grab the dog who thankfully didn’t put up a fight, and got him safely in his car where he took a look at the name tag, which read ‘Mr. Snickers’ and found his address as well. “The dog was really chill,” Donovan said. “He didn’t try and eat the pizza at all.”
Mr. Snicker’s home was only a few miles away, but Donovan still had a pizza to deliver and decided to finish the delivery and then deliver the dog to his owners. “I told them, ‘I’m sorry your pizza is late; I just had to rescue this dog first,'” Donovan said about the understanding customers.
Even though it was far off his delivery route and could get him in trouble, Donovan didn’t think twice about what he was doing. “I wouldn’t mind getting fired over this. I mean, it’s a dog running in the street. I had to help him,” Donovan said.
“He perked up and noticed this was his neighborhood, and he was wagging his tail and getting all excited.” Yet when he got to the address he found out that Mr. Snicker’s owner had recently moved and hadn’t updated the dog’s tags, but was able to find a neighbor that knew the dog and his owner and promised to get him back to his family.
