When one Indian mother heard her three-year-old son scream out in pain, she was prepared to do anything to save him even if it meant giving up her own life.
This past week, 23-year-old mother Pramila Rinjad, who lives with her son in a remote area that borders the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, stepped out of her home at around 9 p.m. to go to the bathroom and left her son safely inside. However, as she walked outside, her curious toddler followed her out.
Because of how close the village is to the forests of the national park, encounters with wild animals aren’t uncommon. And when the 3-year-old named Pranay wandered outside, he ended up being attacked by a leopard hiding in the brush. Pramila heard her baby’s cries immediately and when she ran out and saw what was happening, she didn’t hesitate to do whatever she could to save him from being killed.
“I pounced on him and screamed out loud,” the brave mother said. Thankfully, Pramila managed to surprise the wild animal enough that it dropped Pranay and ran back into the forest. Neighbors quickly ran out when they heard the screams and then helped rush the little boy to the hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries and then sent home.
