Having a loved one pass away is difficult for anyone to process no matter what age you are, but it’s even more difficult for a child to understand.
“Alidy’s dad had passed away a couple months ago and that has obviously been pretty hard for her to comprehend,” 15-year-old Keegan Carnahan said about the three-year-old she babysits. One of the things that have made Alidy feel better during the difficult time is dressing up in her favorite costumes.
“Since the day he passed, Alidy has decided to wear princess outfits. It makes her feel better, so I think we’ve gotten every single one,” mom Jenna Haslam explained. And while Keegan was babysitting one afternoon, Alidy was dressed up in her mermaid outfit and Keegan decided to make the little girl’s day by dressing up in her own mermaid costume for bath time. “Alidy had decided to wear her mermaid costume around the house and ironically I had gone through a phase a couple years ago and had a mermaid tail in my closet!”
“Nobody ever matches with her,” Haslam said about her daughter’s outfits. “She finally found someone to connect with again. So the fact she and Keegan found something to bond about… for Keegan to take the time to do that for her meant the world.”
“I’m really happy that we were able to have fun and ‘dive’ into things that make her happy. I really hope to be in her life for as long as possible because she is a really hilarious kid,” Keegan said.
